Happy Birthday Minh-Tan!
Our sponsored animal at Osnabrück Zoo celebrates his 4th birthday (4th July). The bull elephant is not only getting bigger also cheekier. .
Minh-Tan likes to have adventures. Zoo keeper Marita Dahms says “He likes to play pranks.” Then he grabs his little brother Yaro and together they explore the enclosure. As far as possible under their mother’s radar. As soon as Mama Douanita notices the runaways, she whistles them both back, who then put on their innocent look as if to say “Mama what is it? Chill out!”
Minh-Tan comes of age
Even bull elephants enter puberty. Admittedly, this phase does not begin until they are about ten years old. But until then, it’s all about setting boundaries and trying things out. Minh-Tan does this more and more often. Sometimes he goes alone to cool off in the big pool, so that his mother doesn’t see him. Douanita always has her watchful eyes on Minh-Tan and little brother Yaro.
However, Mama Elephant doesn’t always see everything but Marita Dahms does. She has observed that Minh-Tan likes to tease his big sister Sita. He walks harmlessly past her and then trips her up. Such a cheeky guy. 😉
