We extend animal sponsorship for bull elephant Minh-Tan

The little bull elephant at Osnabrück Zoo is now “big”. Age three years Minh-Tan is now kindergarten age, but he already weighs as much as a small car. Nevertheless he remains the “little one” for us, whom we visit regularly and continue to support him and his family.

We are pleased to continue to support Minh-Tan and his family. Elephants and Schuchmann simply go together. Elephants are part of the animal group known as Pachyderms which are large non ruminant mammals with thick skin and hooves as well as elephants this includes rhinoceros and hippopotamus. Pachyderms are family animals that lovingly care for their offspring and members of the same species. Therefore it was no question for us to extend the animal sponsorship for Minh-Tan. Besides the costs for feeding, care and medical treatment there are always little surprises in between.

  • We are happy to continue another years sponsorship for Minh-Tan.

  • Now three years old Minh-Tan is the perfect age for kindergarten.

  • For everyone to have fun. The "little one" keeps his family on the go.

  • "Uh, that’s refreshing!" Even elephants need a cool down in the summer.

  • Pumpkins, apples and carrots are the favourite food of Minh-Tan and his family. That’s why we like to bring presents from time to time.

Soon the elephant enclosure of the Osnabrück Zoo will be bustling with life. The Asian elephant cows Douanita and Sita are both pregnant, which means: Minh Tan gets little playmates, we are really looking forward to that.

Did you know that August 12 is World Elephant Day?

On this day we want to create an awareness for the endangered mammals. Since the mid-1980s, the World Conservation Union IUCN has classified African elephants (lat. Loxodonta africana) and Asian elephants (lat. Elephas maximus) as highly endangered. The latter are the elephants housed at Osnabrück Zoo. Shrinking habitats and ruthless poaching are causing the population to steadily decrease. According to experts, the number of elephants living in the wild has fallen by half in the last 60 years.
